| Day Zero - Avon 3-Day Walk |
Registration
Here you get your walker wristband, which you must wear throughout the event, your walker
credential which you wear around your neck at all times on the walk, your luggage tag
insert and tent assignment form (which will be used at the next step). Everything is
explained to you.
Tent
Once you have seen the safety video and gone through the medical and pledge check and
registration, you proceed to the tent assignment. If you have a tent partner
selected, you both must go through this line together. If you don't have one, you
will get the next person in line who is also solo. For rare people who will not be
staying at camp, they also go through this line to get a luggage truck assignment.
Here you are assigned a tent location, which is written on your luggage tag as well a chip
that is strung onto your walker credential. A demonstration is given next to this
area on how to set up your tent. These modern tents go up easily and fast - you
thread the flexible aluminum poles through sleeves in the tent and set them in the
grommets and voila - tent! To further relieve your stress about this, often when you
arrive in camp you will find the volunteers have already pitched most of the tents.
Towel Service
This is a new addition - now you can pay $8 and be issued a fresh towel each
day instead of packing your own and trying to dry them overnight so they don't mildew.
I highly recommend this where offered. Towel problems had cropped up as
walkers brought old ones and discarded them each day, creating a waste disposal expense.
