| Day Two - Avon 3-Day Walk |
The
route opens at 6:30 am today. Heading out early does you no good - if you
arrive at Pit Stop 1 at 1.57 miles before 6:45 am you will be asked to wait
until it opens before proceeding.
Today our route will be 15.32 miles for everyone. It also promises to be another very warm day with temperatures in the 80's and the humidity already high. The clouds look a bit threatening of a thunderstorm that the weather people say is coming to break the heat. I don't need a jacket at all today and will rely on my rain poncho if needed.
Body Check
"1 Day Down - 2 Days to
Go" reads one of the many homemade signs along the route. I am in
good shape - no blisters, no muscle aches, plenty of energy. I am almost
disappointed that today isn't 20 full miles - almost! But plenty of other
walkers are already bandaged and hobbling. I am grateful for all of the
miles I put in while training and the long days I spent - often alone - getting
up to 18 miles.
I wave goodbye to our Traffic Crew as I head out of Camp and join the long line of walkers threading their way through Gaithersburg. Such a fashion statement with the orange shirts and the traffic cone hats!
