| Closing Ceremonies - Avon 3-Day Walk |
We
began lining up for the Closing Ceremonies not far after 3:15. Many people
wanted to get moving and get on home to baths, beds, and non-mobile
showers. We got lots of practice with hand waving to applaud our
hearing-impaired walkers.
We lined up and held hands and progressed to just over the hill from the Closing Ceremonies. Short-little-me didn't get to see much of anything after that.
But
at last we got to take the final Victory Walk - over the hill and down to the
stage where I got a spot on the inside rail. Cleverly disguised in my Avon
3-Day Visor and blue shirt, my husband and mother-in-law were nearby but
couldn't pick me out of the crowd.
Next
came the survivors who had walked the event, in their pink t-shirts. It is
always awesome to see these strong and wonderful women and men.
Then we gave a big hand to the Crew and Staff who came over the hill wearing white t-shirts. Without their wonderful support, the event could not happen. I decided to join their ranks for the Seattle 3-Day Walk in August.
The
ceremonies include the Survivor Circle, and speeches by Pallotta TeamWorks and
Avon. But everything is brief so that we who are dead on our feet will
have less to endure.
At last things draw to a close and my first stop is the porta-john, of course. Then I begin to look for my family and find them amazingly swiftly. There is a Meet and Greet area to meet your family alphabetically by your last name, and then the gear trucks to pick up your gear. I can now break the no-whining vow enough to convince my husband to carry my gear back to the hotel.
