Heel spur

Definition:
A painful foot condition caused by inflammation and
injury of
the plantar fascia - the thick ligamentous connective tissue that runs from the
heel to the ball of the foot. A heel spur develops when the injury is
severe enough that the plantar fascia becomes partially detached from the heel
and may form a calcification. Recovery takes several weeks,
aided by icing and taping of the foot and anti-inflammatory medication.Pronunciation:
