Fire Hazard from Dusty and Previously Repaired Treadmills

The treadmills repaired in the 2003 treadmill recall listed below were again recalled because wire nuts were improperly installed, resulting in overheating and fires.

Treadmill owners are advised to immediately unplug and stop using their treadmills. Contact Cybex for a free repair. Toll-free (888) 678-3846 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or through the Cybex website.

2003 Recall Cybex or Trotter Treadmill Recall

Product: Cybex or Trotter Treadmill

Manufacturer: Cybex International, Inc., of Medway, Mass. Consumers should unplug stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Schedule a repair with a certified Cybex service technician. Call Cybex toll-free at (888) 678-3846 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the company's website

Hazard: Fire hazard due to dust accumulating under the treadmill's hood, overheating and/or igniting. There have been five reports of fire.

Brands and models: Cybex 400T, Cybex 410T, Trotter 510, Trotter 525, and Trotter 535. CXT+ is another recalled model but does not bear the brand Cybex or Trotter. Sold between September 1993 and October 2001, for about $4,000.

2008 Cybex Treadmill Recall Due to Fall Hazard

Cybex recalled 19,000 treadmills in October 2008. The treadmills can speed up unexpectedly while in use due to a malfunction with the lower control board, posing a fall hazard to consumers. The recall involves the Cybex 445T, 455T, 530T, 450T, 500T, 515T, and 520T treadmill models. The treadmills were sold by Cybex International and Cybex dealers in the USA from January 2001 through September 2008 for between $5,500 and $7,000.

If you have one of these treadmills, immediately unplug it and stop using it. Contact Cybex to receive a free replacement fuse. If requested, a Cybex technician can install the fuse free of charge. Cybex is directly contacting known purchasers.
