Guide Review - New Lifestyles NL-2000 Activity Monitor Pedometer

This pedometer is a little more expensive than most, but it has features geared to the walker who is managing their weight and tracking their walking steps. The automatic seven-day memory is a wonderful feature - you don't have to reset it each day, it resets to zero at midnight. If you forget to chart your steps for a day or two, they are still there in the memory.

To estimate the calories, it does three things: First, it calculates your basal metabolic rate based upon your height, weight, gender and age. Then it measures the number of calories you burn each day through activity (activity calories). Because it is an accelerometer, it judges the intensity of the activity and awards calories expended accordingly. Then it displays total calories which is the sum of your BMR (At-rest Calories), Activity Calories and Thermic Effect of Food Calories (the energy required to digest food). This helps you set a calorie-burn goal for each day as well as a step goal. The NL-2000 is small and weighs 1/4 ounce - you can wear it all day and never notice it.

The Best I've Tried, Member tiki456

This is the most accurate pedometer I've tried if you're doing the 10,000 steps per day. Besides accuracy, it comes with the added benefit of a cover over the buttons so that you'll never again find that you've accidentally reset your steps around noon. Also, there's no clicking noise. I've tried the Omron twice. The first time it unfortunately flew into the toilet, which might not have been a bad thing because I found that it wasn't reliably recording steps. The second time it just didn't work out of the box. I read on another website that Omron pedometers were really hit and miss as to whether they worked. The pedometer that comes with the video game My Life Coach is very bulky and not always accurate and makes lots of noise. I read the previous review that gave the New Lifestyles a one star because it kept falling off. I've only had that happen in two instances: when the pants I was trying to attach it too were very thick (I put it into my pocket and found it still did a good job of recording) and when I was more overweight and my belly fat kept sliding it off. In the second instance I just hooked it onto my pocket and all was good. While it's more expensive, I find the extra dollars to be worth it for these two important facts: it's accurate and safe (you don't lose your data midday).
