Guide Review - New Lifestyles NL-2000 Activity Monitor Pedometer
This pedometer is a little more expensive than most, but it has features geared to the walker who is managing their weight and tracking their walking steps. The automatic seven-day memory is a wonderful feature - you don't have to reset it each day, it resets to zero at midnight. If you forget to chart your steps for a day or two, they are still there in the memory. To estimate the calories, it does three things: First, it calculates your basal metabolic rate based upon your height, weight, gender and age. Then it measures the number of calories you burn each day through activity (activity calories). Because it is an accelerometer, it judges the intensity of the activity and awards calories expended accordingly. Then it displays total calories which is the sum of your BMR (At-rest Calories), Activity Calories and Thermic Effect of Food Calories (the energy required to digest food). This helps you set a calorie-burn goal for each day as well as a step goal. The NL-2000 is small and weighs 1/4 ounce - you can wear it all day and never notice it.
