He started April 20, 2004 in Los Angeles, by May 14 he was crossing Alabama, and he plans to finish May 25 in Washington DC. Bob Greene, exercise physiologist and personal trainer to Oprah Winfrey, is heading McDonald's Go Active American Challenge - walking and biking across the USA.

Greene aligned with McDonald's to bicycle and walk 3000 miles across the Southern portion of the United States in 36 days. He stops at McDonald’s restaurants along the route to talk with Americans about living balanced and active lives as well as introduce McDonald's Go Active! Happy Meal® featuring the new Premium Fiesta Salad.

Walking and Biking With Bob Greene Across the USA

Each day of the Challenge begins with Greene talking with McDonald's customers about balanced lifestyles and engaging them in a walking activity in their community. By mid-morning Greene mounts his bicycle and proceeds to ride between 50 and 150 miles eastward to the next city.

The Go Active! Happy Meal

Bob Greene developed the Step With It! booklet in the McDonald's Go Active! Happy Meal, an adult Happy Meal including a Premium Salad, Stepometer™, Step with It! booklet, and a bottled water or fountain drink. The Go Active! Happy Meal debuted May 11, 2004 nationwide at participating restaurants.

Through McDonald's Go Active! Happy Meal and the Go Active! American Challenge, an estimated 10 to 15 million Stepometers and walking/fitness booklets will be distributed to customers and organizations throughout the country.

Bob Greene

Greene is an exercise physiologist and certified personal trainer specializing in fitness, metabolism, and weight loss. He is a frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, is a contributing writer and editor for "O" The Oprah Magazine. Greene is the best-selling author of Make the Connection, Get With the Program! and The Get with the Program! Daily Journal. Bob’s most recent book is titled Get With the Program! McDonald's Balanced Lifestyles Initiative

McDonald's Go Active American Challenge is part of their balanced lifestyles initiative announced April 15, 2004. The McDonald's balanced lifestyles initiative focuses on three key strategies: food choice, education and physical activity. McDonald's is working in cooperation with the President's Challenge, a program of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
