Day 22
Breakfast and Second Breakfast: At home I ate some Canadian bacon and a cheese stick very early in the morning as we headed to the airport. On the plane the breakfast was a sausage and egg biscuit, of which I ate the meat and egg but only a nibble of the biscuit. Plus a fruit cup that was mostly pineapple and grapes. I ate that although pineapple is not approved for Phase 2. To get my vegetables, I had a glass of Bloody Mary mix.Lunch/Dinner: We arrived at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in midtown Manhattan around 5:30 pm. Just across the street is the Stage Deli. We often eat at the copy in Las Vegas. So we got a table and I had the open-face pastrami Reuben. I had only nibbles of the rye bread under the mass of meat, cheese, and sauerkraut.
Diet Performance: Thus far - plenty of calories and more fat than needed, but I was sticking with most of the Phase 2 guidelines.
Day 23
I had breakfast at the hotel buffet and because tomorrow I was going to walk an endurance event, I had some carbs. I had sausage, eggs, quiche, a cheese blintz, melon, and orange juice. Not enough veggies.Lunch/Dinner: After the filling breakfast, my husband and I became tourists and took the subway to lower Manhattan. We paid our respects at Ground Zero, toured Wall Street, and took the Staten Island Ferry across and back to see the Statue of Liberty and the skyline. We ended up with a late lunch at Martini's, which is also just across the street from our hotel. For my carb treat, I had a beer. I also had a wonderful salad and the veal saltimbocca which is unbreaded veal topped with Italian ham and on a bed of sauteed spinach. I ate the dinner roll with butter. My meal came with ice cream for dessert and I ate it. I checked in for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer - our hotel is the headquarters hotel for the event. Come evening, we went to see "The Producers" but had no further meal.
Diet Performance: I had more carbs than recommended for Phase 2, but that is in keeping with needing to carboload for the half-marathon tomorrow, especially since I have been very carbo-depleted the past three weeks.
