Participants in the Slim-Fast Challenge will receive a free Slim-Fast Club membership, a weight loss guide, information about the Slim-Fast Plan, tips on portion control, nutrition, menu planning and recipes. People will also receive a body mass index assessment card, a pedometer to use in conjunction with the personalized exercise plan, and product samples.
"We designed the Slim-Fast Challenge to help people take more of a long- term approach to weight loss," said Michiel Kruyt, vice president of marketing at Slim-Fast. "The Slim-Fast Plan was proven in a recent clinical study to help people lose weight and keep it off for 10 years because it offers them a flexible system that they can stick with, and personalized support to help them stay on course. Given the new clinical data, the Challenge has the potential to help millions of shoppers meet their New Year's resolution goals and maintain their weight loss for the next decade. The public health implications could be quite significant."
"We hope this event inspires interested customers to speak to their physician about the role weight loss plays in healthy living," said Theresa Oria, Wal-Mart pharmacist in New Millford, Connecticut. "This New Year challenge is the first of many healthy living initiatives customers will find at Wal-Mart and SAM's Clubs in 2004."
Slim-Fast Challenge participants will have access to a web site to provide them online support for their exercise and weight loss goals.
