Stress Fracture

Definition: A break in the bone caused by repetitive stress such as walking or running. It may be a crack and can progress to a complete break. Stress fracture of the metatarsal bones in the foot are common. Symptoms are a sharp pain in the forefoot, when walking. At rest you may notice tenderness to touch in the fracture area and swelling.

Also Known As: March fracture, Fatigue fracture
