It can be hard to choose between another hour of sleep or catching up on chores or email vs. going for a walk.
- Less Traffic:On my morning neighborhood walk I was passed by one car in two miles, vs. a much more regular stream of traffic when I walk in the late afternoon.
- Catch the Morning Cool:For summer walking, morning is the time. Today's afternoon temperatures should peak at 96F, so I chose instead to walk in the cool morning at 60F. Chances are I would simply not walk this afternoon, and our temperatures don't go down much in the evening.
- Meet the Neighbors:Today met one lone jogger, one lady jogger with large black dog, one lady walker with energetic black puppy on leash, two retirement-age bike riders, a gal watering her lawn, and a walker coming out of our one-block street who I didn't recognize and greeted erroneously as Mary!
- Smell the Roses:It's a great mood-setter for the day to see the flowers in parks, gardens and neighbor's plantings. Today I saw gorgeous roses, wild thimbleberries, pearly everlasting in the park, and smelled sweet blooms.
- The Sound of Silence: The air was alive with bird calls, but no traffic noise or lawn mowers or construction clatter. The sprinklers on the ball field and on a few lawns added a pleasant rhythm.
- Free up Your Evening: Having completed my daily walk, I could tell my husband I had the evening free to spend as we wished.
- Get the Blood to Your Brain:Get your circulation moving so you can think faster and smarter the rest of your day. Clear your mind and let new ideas flow.
