Registering to Walk or Crew
Each participant pays a $55 registration fee and must raise $1750 (in 2004 it is $1800) to participate.
Both men and women are welcome, with the age minimum of 18 years old.
The events are designed to
accommodate 3,500-4,000 walkers. A limit to the number of registrants will be set once the walking routes and sites are finalized.
Registrations are accepted online at the Avon Walk site.
Crew members assist in all aspects of making the event happen. Crew registration is also $55, with no fundraising requirement.
Once registered, you will get support to coach you both in fundraising and in training for the walk.
The Avon Foundation
The Avon Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) public charity, is producing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. While they provide control over the event, they will rely upon independent specialists for the participant support and logistics. They have on board a team with years of experience in producing similar events. They plan to keep overhead expenses below 50%, with a goal of 65% or more of the funds raised going to breast cancer programs.
The Avon Foundation funds the full range of breast cancer programs : medical research, clinical care, support services, education and early detection programs. A majority of the net proceeds stay in the region where each walk is held. As of mid-year 2002, the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade had raised more that $235 million for breast cancer worldwide.
