The Breast Cancer 3-Day Walks are returning for late 2003, with three walks to be held in major California cities. The enormously popular 3-day walk format ended in 2002 as the former sponsor, Avon, parted ways with the production company. For 2003, a new sponsor and production company aim to bring the same spirit and challenge to the events.
Susan G. Komen Foundation to Sponsor
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, sponsor of the Race for the Cure events, is the new sponsor of the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walks. The new production company includes highly experienced members who helped produce the former Avon 3-Day Breast Cancer Walks. Net money raised from the walks will be split 85% to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and 15% to the National Philanthropic Trust, both using the money for breast cancer research, outreach, and education.Same Great Format
The format of the 3-Day Walks will be the same as the former series of events. Walkers walk 20 miles a day for three days, camping each night in a tent city. Each walker must raise $2000 in donations to participate. The walkers are fully supported with meals, snacks, rest stops, and evening entertainment. For many it is a life-changing event.Three Cities in 2003 - Ten in 2004
