The first annual Take the Stairs Day is January 9, 2013. The USA Stair Climbing Association declared it as a day for all of us to take the stairs rather than the elevator or escalator. They remind us that we don't need any special equipment and we can do it indoors, out of the weather. Stairs are a great way to add intensity to your walking workout, or just add more activity throughout your day. You can burn off an extra half pound of fat per year just by walking the stairs for only one minute per day! Do it more often and it can make a big difference over time.
