Winter Running Skirt
Love your running skirt but want to keep your legs warm? SkirtSports.com has a ToughGirl Hot Legs skirt to keep out the wind on your winter walks and runs. They combine a running skirt with bootleg cut tights. It's made of soft, moisture-wicking nylon and spandex that the manufacturer says will keep you warm for temperatures down to 30F. It has two pockets under the skirt and a port for your headphone cords. I haven't had a chance to see this item in real life, but I have seen how popular running skirts are at marathons and half marathons. They also have skirts with capri-length tights.

If you wear running skirts, why do you like them? I've tried samples from several manufacturers and they just aren't for me. While I appreciate covering your buns and feeling feminine, I just don't like having extra flaps of fabric over my shorts, it annoys me. I also see plenty of guys wearing running kilts, so this is a gender-neutral question. If you wear a running skirt or running kilt, why do you like it?

I love running in a skirt. Shorts are definitely not for me, because of the way they ride up and chafe, and compression shorts are effective but show every figure flaw, so a skirt is a great way to solve that problem.
I have a couple of Tough Girls and love them for winter running, plus a variety of skirts with compression shorts or briefs underneath. The briefs are actually starting to be my favorite these days, no chafing without fabric “down there” to rub. There’s a reason those elite runners are wearing briefs, but there’s no way I would run in briefs without the skirt to cover up.
I love that I can be an athlete and still feel girly.
All I can say is “ditto” to the first comment!!! I love my skirtsport running skits. I have 2 of them and am in them all the time. It is getting colder now so I am going to buy 1 capri and 1 toughgirl from them as well. I’ve tried other skirts and they just don’t work for me! Besides, hubby says the SKIRTS LOOK HOT! Much better than “too tight show everything kind of running pants/shorts.”
I love my running skirts and wouldn’t dream of running in anything else! I have been running in SkirtSports skirts for years now and am a true convert. For the warmer months I love the skirts that have the briefs under them, there is no chafing and they are super comfy. I love my ToughGirl to run in in the winter. It keeps my legs warm, and I still feel cute and feminine with the skirt over the top (plus it gives a little more coverage for my backside!). I get compliments all the time on my running skirts, both while training and at races. I will never go back to running in shorts again!
For years I tried to run and just never was able to be comfortable. I discovered running skirts and gave them a try. It was a perfect match for me! I was able to move without chafing and I didn’t get the “ride” up that shorts tended to give me. I too have a tough girl for the winter and find it perfect on cold mornings. I also like the way I feel and look in my skirts. No bunching, shifting or unwanted sag. Skirts are the best way to go! I figure if you are going to be out in the elements, getting hot and sweaty, you might as well look good doing it!
Comfort, convenience (love those hidden pockets!), and lookin’ good – great combination! Running skirts in general are good; SkirtSports skirts, especially GymGirl Ultra, are wonderful.
Mine isn’t a running skirt but a short. The shorts under are longer. I also have a wrap from Terry Bicycles which I wear over regular compression shorts and my swimsuit in the summer.
I love that it doesn’t bunch or ride up like shorts and gives me more coverage than compression shorts. And the small pocket save finding a place for my house key.
I wear my wrap during errands too.
I am definitely going to get a couple of these. I don’t know why I never thought of them before. For some reason, no matter how carefully I have tried to pick comfortable, modest running shorts, they always bunch up and the whole world can see my panties. ARRGHHHH!!!
Maybe I don’t “get” running skirts because I was required to wear a skirt throughout grades 1-8, even at recess. We had to play soccer, softball, prison ball, tetherball etc. in our same schoolclothes. We didn’t have uniforms, but couldn’t wear pants. My rebellion against those days is a rejection of doing anything active while wearing a skirt!
But I see oodles of running skirts out there now at marathons and half marathons and other running/walking events. Good for the gals who like them (and the guys who like kilts), but I guess I’m traumatized.
Sounds like someone went to Catholic school LOL…
one question, though…what is “prison ball” ?? I’ve heard of the other games, but I never heard of prison ball before.
