Beat the Heat Walking Indoors

Wednesday July 9, 2008
It's hot outside, so I have two choices. First, I can go out for a walk at 5 am and enjoy the dawn and the cool of the day. But it's July and I love to watch the Tour de France in the morning before heading to work. Ah, men in spandex cycling through gorgeous countryside....

OK, so morning is out, how do I still get in a workout in air conditioned comfort? While a treadmill in an air conditioned room is an obvious choice, it's not the only one. Here are ways to take your walking indoors when it's too hot outside.

I see my whole world walking as I’m unable to drive and the thoughts of being a shut-in pedestrian is more than I can bear. The heat is irrelevant compared to the life experiences one has on their two feet.

Ok, this may sound hokey, but I walk indoors at my local mall when its boiling hot outside. There’s a group of single mommies that do this every once in a while; its a fun way to catch up with one another while getting some extra steps in.
