July is here, which is Tour de France time in my house. I rise early to work on my blog and also enjoy seeing men in spandex cycling through the Alps, the Pyrenees, and the French countryside. Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France a record seven times, after surviving testicular cancer. His experience led him to create the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which supports cancer survivorship and raises funds for cancer research, screening, and treatment.
The Livestrong Challenge is a fund raising ride, run, and walk held in several cities each year. I've volunteered at their Portland event for the past three years. It is very inspiring to assist at an event that raises over $1 million to fight cancer, and to see cancer survivors completing their walk, run, or bike. Upcoming Livestrong Challenge events will be held in San Jose, Philadelphia, and Austin. I enjoy this event because it brings together bicyclists, runners and walkers, and shows that cancer doesn't have to stop you from achieving as an endurance athlete.
