Spring Walking Festivals - Marathons - Half Marathons
Friday February 15, 2008
Is winter giving you itchy feet to get away this spring for a great walking festival or challenging marathon or half marathon?
- Best Spring Walking Festivals: These volkssport walking festivals are a low cost way to enjoy walks of 5K, 10K and even marathon distances.
- MORE Magazine Marathon + Half-Marathon for Women Over 40: This April event in Central Park, NYC benefits CARE, a charity helping women fight poverty.
- Eugene Marathon and Half Marathon, Oregon: I was disappointed to read that the Marathon de Mayo in Reno was being discontinued, but the same weekend now boasts a walker-friendly marathon and half marathon in one of the running capitals of the USA, Eugene, Oregon. The course is flat and scenic along the Willamette River. It's a high cost event, but I may be giving it a try. With 8 hours to finish either the half marathon or marathon, what could be friendlier?
- RaceLA and CityRace: If you are an Amazing Race wannabee, these clue-solving urban adventure hunts in the Los Angeles area are for you. My husband and I joined in a similar (now defunct) event, the Urban Challenge, and it was fantastic. Update: The Great Urban Race is being held in numerous cities, benefitting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The article said something about the “now defunct” Urban Challenge. It looks to me that it’s alive and well.

Woo hoo! Thanks for finding that. Great ideas don’t stay dead for long. I’ll plan to join in the one in my area! I’ve added it to the blog post.
