World Walking Day May 8

Friday May 4, 2007
Luc Henau and Mr. EbashiEnjoy a walk on IVV World Walking Day, May 8 each year. Walks held by International Volkssport Federation (IVV) associated clubs worldwide will have a special stamp and certificate for walkers who attend events in May.

The IVV is the world's largest organization of walking clubs. Each clubs hosts non-competitive walking events that are open to the public to promote health, fitness, and friendship. The walks have a standard distance of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and take most people 2 hours to complete. But many also have a shorter route of 5K (3.1 miles) which takes most people an hour or less. The price? Very inexpensive - in the USA you can walk many of the events at no charge, or a charge of up to $3. Some special events with awards cost more.

In the USA, clubs are organized through the AVA, and in Canada through the CVF. I got my start in the walking life through attending IVV-sanctioned walks, and walking IVV walks is still my favorite way to find and enjoy a great walk in my local area - or around the world.
