Carnival of the Walkers #48

Sunday June 4, 2006
Weekly round-up of walking blogs, news, and fun items.
  • Go Ahead and Reuse Your Water Bottles: The Starling Fitness Blog dispels the notion that disposable water bottles shouldn't be reused or they can leach cancer-causing chemicals. Not so, says further research. Just make sure you wash and dry them well to prevent bacterial and fungal growth - just as with your reusable water bottle. Now I need to hunt down and edit my own page that reported this now-discredited research.
  • Flip Flops or Sandals?: The Happy Feet blog covers this blistering controversy. He comes down firmly on the side of sandals, which usually have better support and control. Flip flops vs. sandals
  • Thomas Jefferson - Pedometer Inventor: Joe Kissell presents Interesting Thing of the Day: Pedometers with amazing pedometer and TJ factoids.
  • Where to Walk in Texas: Gary Whitford has mashed up a Google Map of all of the map-guided 10K AVA/IVV walking routes in Texas. You can find further details about these great walks on their walk details page.
  • Good News, Bad News: The CardioBlog has me in whiplash. Apparently, British researchers link long term high dose ibuprofen can double your heart attack risk, but on the good news side, 1-3 cups of coffee can reduce heart attack risk for post-menopausal women.
  • Perils for Pedestrians 6-6-06: Catch this week's Perils for Pedestrians on the DISH Network, The Universityhouse Channel, 9:30 pm Eastern, 6:30 Pacific
