- Xango Juice: I can always trust my family to latch onto the latest pseudoscientific fad. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was sipping Xango Juice (mangosteen juice) at our last family get-together. Quackwatch has the lowdown on this juice. It's as healthy other fruit juices, but there's no evidence it has special powers worth a premium price. - especially if you are simply drinking it.
- How Much are You Drinking from Your Camelbak? Scott Dunlap of A Trail Runner's Blog has a suggested invention I would love to have - a fluid intake monitor for your hydration pack. Otherwise, it's tough to know how much water you have left without taking off your pack. His gizmo would also alert you when it is time to drink more.
- Drinking Enough? If you are aiming to drink 64 ounces of water a day but have trouble keeping track, here's a gizmo already invented and available, the F.I.T. Clip - Fluid Intake Tracker. Just slip it over your water bottle and increment it each time you drain the bottle.
- Two More Reasons to Drink Only Water: Researchers think sugary soda pop is a major source of obesity. But don't think that sugary sports drinks are any better, as dentists say Gatorade is worse for your teeth than Coke. As for me, I stick with water and coffee for my usual drinks throughout the day. When walking in heat or for more than 2 hours, an electrolyte replacement sports drink is a good idea to replace body salts and give you an energy boost.
- Those Deadly Girl Scout Cookies: Who can pass by those winsome faces selling those tasty cookies? I can't, but my tactic is to hand them $5 and not take the box of cookies. If you lack that sort of will power, then take Laura Moncur's advice on how to indulge in Girl Scout cookies without overdoing it.
- Help Your Child Walk Away from Obesity: The Discover Walking blog has tips for walking with your child to help them manage their weight. Back in my grade school, we had only one child in the entire school who you might call fat. Things have changed on the playground, with 15% of today's schoolchildren overweight.
- Arthritis Walks: Our Guide to Arthritis profiles the Arthritis Walk series of charity walks, nationwide in the US in April and May.
