94 Year-Old Walks 100 Miles a Week: This guy just upriver from me more than doubles my mileage each week, at more than twice my age! Hugh Gailey lives in a Stevenson, Washington assisted living center on the mighty Columbia River. He starts walking before breakfast, feeds the geese, and doesn't stop till he's helped lock up the old train at the interpretive center. He logs 100 miles a week, including his record of 31.6 miles in a day. Just what exactly does the staff assist him with? Walk on, Hugh!
Snow Walker: The Walktopia blog has a great interview about showshoeing with Jael Young. Find out the basics about snowshoeing.
Walk the Mall: The Discovery Walking blog has tips on mall walking now that the holiday crowds have thinned, your waistline has likely thickened, and the weather outside is still frightful.
Now Tell the Nice Doctor Where it Hurts: Someday you'll be prodded to go see a doctor about an ache or pain. Dr. Lee Miller tells you to be prepared with the OPQRST about your pain to help in the diagnosis and treatment.
Will This be the Year?>: Nordic walkers keep hoping that the walking pole craze that has taken Europe will come to shores of Britain and America. Nordic Walking News reflects on when running became popular and hopes for a similar transformation.
Not Attracted to Magnets: I'm a magnet skeptic, and found this article in The Scotsman to sum up the non-proof that they do any good for pain, "Flawed of the Rings: Health bracelets are a waste of money" via Sports Geezer who has his own pithy comments.
First Look at the Garmin Forerunner 305: Laura Moncur reports from the Consumer Electronics Show on the latest from Garmin, after fighting her way past the mob looking at a bike Lance Armstrong autographed. The Garmin Forerunner 305 combines GPS for speed and distance with a heart rate monitor and mapping and route sharing, plus lots of training features. As a Forerunner 101 user, I'm drooling over this one.
