Follow me on:

Straps vs. Strapless: We're talking walking poles, not gowns. David Downer discusses the difference between poles with and without handstraps. He comes down in favor of the increased range of motion exercise you get with poles with straps. Exerstrider's Tom Rutlin responds with a defense for strapless pole techniques.
First Marathon Ahead!: Debbie Evans writes to me from Scottsdale, where is training for her first marathon. She'll tackle the PF Change Marathon in January. She finished her first half-marathon on Sunday with a big hill at the end. Hang in there, Debbie - soon enough 13.1 miles is just a warm-up!
5 Steps to Walking Without Pain: Leesa Myers, LME of the Educational Institute For Healthy Feet has 5 steps to walking without pain. We could all use these wise words!
The New Las Vegas Marathon Debuts Dec. 4: I was excited when the Las Vegas Marathon moved to the first weekend in December - rooms are cheap and it's my favorite time of year to visit, shop, and gamble. The bad news is that they eliminated the half-marathon distance this year. The course has no finish time limit, but if you are on a pace slower than a trot (13 minute miles or a 5.5 hour finish) you must move to the sidewalks at some point. It sounds like a blast, a flat course down The Strip and through Fremont Street, cheered on by a quarter million gamblers. Elvis will definitely be there in many incarnations!
The Relay Changes Dates: My Knights of Knee team was all set to do The Relay, a 128-mile walking relay down in the San Francisco area (including walking over the Golden Gate Bridge). But they've changed the dates to April 8-9, 2006. Unfortunately, the Knights are busy in key positions for the Discovery Walk Festival that time of year. But perhaps it's a good opportunity for you to form a team. It benefits Organs 'R' Us, and your team entry fee is waived if you collect $6000 in donations or donate an organ!
